Mary Jean Halm, 85
Mary Jean Halm, 85, was born July 22, 1920, in Nebraska and passed away May 15, 2006, in Honolulu. She was the daughter of Carl and Clara Pieper.
She taught in a country school house before moving to Sacramento, Calif., where she met and married Joe E. Halm of Missoula on Feb. 14, 1942. She traveled with Joe while he completed his training with the Air Force during World War II. Then they started a lath mill near Neihart.
They moved to Seattle and then to Anchorage, Alaska, where Joe worked for Pacific Northern Airlines and Jean raised three lovely children and became a Girl Scout leader. They moved to Bellevue, Wash., when PNA merged with Western and Delta, and Jean was active with PEO there.
In 1980, the couple moved to Missoula, then to Kalispell, where she remained active with PEO and Daughters of the Nile. They then lived in Bigfork before returning to Honolulu.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; son, William 'Bill' Halm; and brothers, Paul and Harold Pieper.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joe E. Halm, who will return to Fairbanks; daughter, Bonnie and husband, Elden Johnson, of Fairbanks; daughter, Mary Jo Comins of Eugene Ore.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; sister-in-law, Joy Pieper, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother-in-law, Glenn Halm, of Missoula; sister-in-law, Ruth Nutter, of Bigfork; and nephew, Tom Jennings, of Kalispell.
Jean's final resting place is in Queen's Park in Honolulu.
