Bravettes fall short in opener to Rustlers

MISSOULA - Great Falls C.M. Russell spoiled a perfect day for Western division teams at the Class AA state softball tournament on Thursday at Fort Missoula.
The Rustlers, sporting the best record, edged Flathead 2-0 in opening-round action while Western teams finished the day with a 3-1 record.
Missoula Big Sky, Butte and Helena Capital all posted victories in their games.
CMR broke open a scorless game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Briana Compton went the distance in the circle for Flathead, allowing just five hits.
CMR's Amber Keeler threw a 2-hitter.
Heather Hagele and Julie Roberts both had singles for Flathead.
Flathead will face Billings West today in loser-out action at noon.
