All systems are go for Vice President Dick Cheney's arrival this afternoon in the Flathead Valley.

Cheney is the guest speaker at a Republican Party "victory rally" that begins at 4:30 p.m. at Majestic Valley Arena north of Kalispell. The vice president was in Whitefish in August to help raise re-election money for Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont.

The Kalispell GOP office had dispersed 1,000 free tickets for the event by mid-Tuesday and still was giving out tickets.

"We were just cleared to go over 1,000 tickets," event coordinator Stacey Graham said at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. "We'll see what the next hour and a half bring."

Rally goers must have a ticket to get into the arena.

With the general election less than a week away, Republicans and Democrats are pulling out all the stops to promote their candidates.

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., will join Senate challenger Jon Tester at a "rally for change" at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Red Lion Inn in Kalispell.

President George W. Bush will be in Billings on Thursday for a political rally for Republican candidates.
