Jay M. 'Shorty' Gould, 85

Jay M. "Shorty" Gould passed away Oct. 25, 2006, in Othello, Wash. after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Kimball, S.D., to Thomas and Ruth (Wannamaker) Gould.

Before serving in the Army during World War II, he was a horse trail tour guide in Glacier National Park. He worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation in several different states, including the construction of Hungry Horse Dam. After retirement, he moved to the Flathead Valley. In April 2006 he moved to Warden, Wash., to live with his son, Tom.

In 1945, he married Alice Leona St. Germain. Together they raised five children. Leona passed away in 1974. He married Blache Wood in 1982; they later divorced but remained friends.

Shorty enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He always had a good time around friends and family. He liked going out for meals; notably to Syke's, where he could still get a cup of coffee for 10 cents.

Shorty is survived by his sister, Ruth Richardson, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; daughter Germaine Bennett, of Kalispell; son Tom, and his wife, Linda, of Warden, Wash.; daughter Myrene Arneson and her husband, Ron, of Conrad; son Dale of Kalispell; son-in-law, Ken Morrison Jr., of Columbia Falls; and daughter of the heart, Tenna Harrison, of Othello, Wash.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; sister Eunice Wesche; daughter Darlene Morrison; and grandchildren Lynnette and Tommy Gould.

There will be a private service at a later date.
