A Whitefish woman died Thursday from injuries she suffered after crashing her vehicle into a building Sunday morning.

The woman's name was not immediately released. She died at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Whitefish police, Fire Department and Ambulance were called to the 9 a.m. accident at the Duck Inn, where the woman crashed.

Police detective Lt. Roger Bergstrom said there had been earlier reports of the woman driving erratically and speeding.

Bergstrom said the woman drove across a curb, through a vacant lot, struck two trees and then crashed her Ford Ranger pickup into the motel at about 50 mph. She hit the outside of the building about 12 feet off the ground. The impact broke a gas line.

The woman wasn't wearing a seat belt and was trapped inside the vehicle, Bergstrom said.

The accident caused about $50,000 damage to the building, according to preliminary estimates, he said.
