Peterson students pile up food for the needy

| November 19, 2006 1:00 AM

Students at Peterson School in Kalispell spent the past two weeks collecting food for the Flathead Food Bank, competing among classrooms to boost donations.

Schoolwide, students brought in 2,492 cans of food. Peterson Pride, a core of sixth-grade volunteers, set up and advertised the drive, then counted and charted donations.

One class used it as a math project, too. The two classes bringing in the most food, Dan Hodge's second-graders in the primary wing and Kristi Slaten's sixth-graders in the secondary wing will have a pajama party with popcorn and movies.

The second-place classes in each level, Diane Denney's third-graders and Lori Adkins' fifth-graders, won the honor of carrying donations to the Food Bank on Friday.
