Whitefish wins third straight state title
Three in a row.
That's what Whitefish accomplished Saturday afternoon at the Class A state volleyball tournament at Montana State University.
The Bulldogs downed Dillon 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18 to repeat for a third-straight year as state champions.
Whitefish went 4-0 in state tournament play.
The Bulldogs came into the season-ending show as the No. 1 seed from the Northwestern A divisional.
Over in Class AA, Flathead gave way to a determined Billings Senior squad, which also repeated as state champs. But the Broncs had to knock off Flathead twice on Saturday to win it all in the double-elimination event.
Senior bested Flathead 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-14 to hand the Bravettes their first tournament loss and force a second championship game. The Broncs also won that one, 25-13, 25-13, 25-15.
Flathead finished third at state a year ago.
