Lack of snow prevented Big Mountain's hoped-for Thanksgiving Day opening, but the ski resort plans to open Dec. 2. Snow is predicted for the next week, and cold weather will facilitate snow making.

The mountain's traditional Pray for Snow Party will take place as planned at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bierstube in Big Mountain Village. Skiers and snowboarders will offer sacrifices to Ullr, god of snow, and local funk band Pedacter will perform with no cover charge beginning at 9 p.m. Traditionally, the runs receive a fresh covering of snow within 48 hours of the ceremony.
