Sun Road is closed for season

The upper section of Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park has been closed for the season.

Beginning this morning, the road will be closed at the Loop on the west side and Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side of Glacier.

Icy road conditions prompted the earlier-than-expected closure, which had been scheduled Nov. 1.

The alpine section of Sun Road will be open to hiking and bicycling as weather and road conditions permit.

The lower stretches of Sun Road remain open for motorists. That includes 23.5 miles from the West Glacier entrance to the Loop on the west side and 13.5 miles from St. Mary to Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side.
