Arvilla B. Reed, 96

Arvilla B. Reed, 96, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at the Immanuel Home in Kalispell.

She was born Sept. 5, 1910, in Tacoma, Wash., to Mathias and Antoinette Ann (Merkel) Knudson.

The family moved to Colville, Wash., and then to Ponce Coupe, British Columbia, in 1913 where they homesteaded. In 1920, the family moved back to Colville. In 1930, they family moved to Columbia Falls.

Arvilla was married to Charles Elwin Reed on Dec. 27, 1931. They moved to Coram in 1936. She worked as the postmaster in Coram from 1944 to 1973.

She moved back to Columbia Falls in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elwin, in 1977; and six brothers and sisters.

Arvilla is survived by her daughter, Nerma Barbo, of Columbia Falls; three grandchildren, Arles C. Earwood of Sacramento, Calif., John E. Barbo of Rapid City, S.D., and Deana R. Salfen of Cameron Park, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Troy D. Van Auken, Samantha R. DeVries, John R. DeVries, Kyle D. Salfen and Kelly C. Salfen; three great-great-grandchildren, Hunter DeVries, Jocelyn Van Auken and Conner Van Auken; and two sisters, Sylvia Fugate and Lois Shirley Broad.

She was a member of the Canyon Community Church for many years.

She loved to travel.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls. Pastor Peter Bergen will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

A reception will follow the graveside committal at the United Methodist Church in Columbia Falls.
