A Washington man was killed and his passenger critically injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in Whitefish early Saturday morning.

The motorcycle was headed west on East Edgewood Avenue at a little after 3 a.m. when it left the road. The riders, neither of whom were wearing helmets, were thrown from the bike.

The driver, 39-year-old Brian Jones of Sammamish, Wash., was pronounced dead at the scene. ALERT helicopter flew the 37-year-old female passenger to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.

Whitefish police reported seeing the pair leave the Great Northern Bar about an hour before the wreck occurred. Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
