FHS girls tie Capital; Braves best Bruins, 3-1

The Flathead High School girls soccer team tied Helena Capital 1-1 Saturday to remain undefeated in Western AA play at Kidsport.
The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Bravettes (4-0-1, 3-0-1) took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Heidi Windauer in the 51st minute. Capital goalkeeper Jenna FauntLeRoy stopped a Flathead shot near the far post, but Windauer kicked the deflected ball into the net.
A Flathead defensive miscommunication led to Capital's goal in the 55th minute. Flathead's defense had control of the ball, but an unexpected header to goalkeeper Danika Pietron came up short and Capital intercepted the ball and struck to tie the game 1-1.
Still, Flathead coach Scott Warnell was happy to tie Capital (2-0-1), considering the Bruins won the state title last year.
"Helena Capital returned a lot of girls and we lost nine starters this year and our girls stepped up and played a real aggressive game against them," Warnell said.

Connor Cavigli scored two first-half goals and Flathead beat Helena Capital in a Western AA match on Saturday.
Cavigli put the Braves (4-1, 4-0) ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute when he scored off a pass from Chresten Knaff. His second goal came in the 19th minute.
Knaff finished with two assists, including one on Luke Fischer's goal in the 78th minute which capped Flathead's scoring.
