Doggy Dash today in Polson
The Mission Valley Animal Shelter's Doggy Dash 2006 kicks off this morning at Boettcher Park in Polson, rain or shine.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk gets under way at 9 a.m.
Contests will begin at 10:30 a.m. Categories include owner/pet look-a-like, worst-behaved dog, best dressed, best trick, "baddest" hair day, most colors, longest tail, best kisser and oldest dog.
The large pavilion at Boettcher Park has been reserved in case of rain.

Crafts market today in Bigfork
The Bigfork Art and Cultural Center's Handcrafted Harvest Market continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the Art Center.
Everything including jewelry, quilts, purses and afghans, fine art and blown glass, pottery and seasonal works will be on display and for sale.

Peace walk today in Bigfork
Supporters of The Peace Alliance will hold a peace walk through Bigfork today to raise awareness and funds for the national organization that is supporting legislation in the House and Senate to create a U.S. Department of Peace.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the Bigfork School parking lot. The three-mile walk starts at 10 a.m.
Participants should understand that they are walking for peace, and not against anything.

Benefit for Kalispell nurse at Smith Grange
A benefit and gathering of friends for Susanne "Suz" Burgess is being held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Smith Grange. Burgess has worked as a nurse practitioner in Kalispell for Northwest Women's Health Care for more than 20 years.
She has been diagnosed and is being treated for leiomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
The community is invited. Smith Grange is across from Smith Valley School on U.S. 2 West toward Kila.

Pie social today helps cancer patient
A benefit pie social and auction for Joannie Gregg is planned for today at Mountain Trails City Park, 715 Wisconsin Ave., in Whitefish, to help pay Gregg's medical expenses related to the bone marrow transplant she needs to save her life.
From 4 to 7 p.m., there will be socializing and pie available by the slice.
A silent auction will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., and a live auction begins at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Call 471-0366 for details.
Wine-tasting event today in Kalispell
The Evergreen Rotary Club hosts a Fall Fest wine and beer-tasting event from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Bulldog Convention Center in the Outlaw Inn in Kalispell.
Tickets are $50 apiece and $80 for a couple. There will be hors d'oeuvres and auction items. Proceeds benefit the Evergreen ABS youth field.
