Karen Thompson Glick, 67
Karen Thompson Glick, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Brendan House in Kalispell.
She was born on July 21, 1939, in Libby, the daughter of Samuel and Verdelle (Fuller) Thompson.
Karen grew up with her older brother, Gale, and sister, Genelle, in Libby and Kalispell. She graduated from Troy High School in 1957 and then went on to attend a business/secretarial vocational school in Helena.
In her early childhood, Karen's mother (a country school teacher) inculcated the importance of the '3 Rs - reading, 'riting and 'rithmatic.' Consequently Karen's handwriting was impeccable and this, plus her attention to detail, contributed to her vocational skill as a bookkeeper.
She enjoyed art and craft hobbies and used many different materials creating various works of art. She was an imaginative seamstress and could always be counted on to sew school carnival prizes and Halloween costumes. Gardening, antiquing and garage sale shopping were some of her favorite pastimes and she was often accompanied by her childhood friend, Mary Tevebaugh of Libby.
Karen lived most of her life in western Montana, except for a few years in California and Oregon. In 1979 she purchased a pioneer's log cabin in Somers. This was her home until her death on Sept. 12. Refinishing and rebuilding the cabin was her focus for almost two decades, often recruiting family and friends to assist her with this task. Karen was proud of this accomplishment and stocked her home with treasured antiques.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Brendan house for their care and support.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her son, Steven L. Osborne of Kalispell; daughter, Kim Orr and husband, Joe, and son, Justin, of Somers; one brother, Gale Thompson and wife, Kathy, of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a sister, Genelle Richardson and husband, Rich, of Springhill, La.; her stepmother, Sally Thompson of Hayden, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Karen will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Wayne Pris of Eidsvold Lutheran Church officiating.
The family suggests memorial gifts be given to the Humane Society or Animal Sanctuaries, 3499 Hwy. 93, Kalispell, MT 59901.
Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Karen's family.
