Mariners fall short against Wheatland, Wyo.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Mission Valley held a 1-0 lead after three innings, by Wheatland, Wyo., battled back for a 6-4 loser-out victory Sunday at the American Legion Baseball Northwest Class A Regional Tournament.
Wheatland scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead for good and advance in tournament play.
Mission Valley finished with a 61-10 record. It was the first time all season the Mariners lost back-to-back games.
Mission Valley fell to Box Elder, Utah, on Saturday, 7-3. The Mariners opened the tournament on Friday with a 10-7 victory over Ashland, Ore.
Brandon Roy pitched seven innings for Mission Valley, giving up seven hits. He fanned 11.
The Mariners outhit Wheatland 13-7. Kyle Brown, Eric Locke, Will Gordon, Tyler Linse and John Rausch all had two hits each for Mission Valley.
Brown singled in Cubby Pierre, who reached to start the third inning on an error. Pierre then stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Linse singled in Gordon in the eighth inning.
Mission Valley scored twice in the ninth. Rausch, who led off with a double, scored on an error and Brandon Thompson singled in Brown.
The team is scheduled to leave Alaska late Tuesday.
