Throws 2 late TD passes as Pirates edge Stevensville in opener

POLSON - Craig Bagnell threw two long touchdown passes in the final 3:48 of play to rally Polson to a 27-26 non-conference Class A football victory Friday night over Stevensville.

Bagnell hit Ryan Kelley on a 35-yard fade route and Kelley outran three Stevensville defenders to the end zone for an 82-yard touchdown with 3:48 to play.

Brock Picard kicked the extra point, cutting Stevensville's lead to 26-19.

Polson's defense forced a four-and-out with Stevensville on the Yellowjackets' next offensive series.

Bagnell then connected with Cody Doyle on an 83-yard TD strike with 1:48 remaining. That pass bounced off a Stevensville defender into Doyle, who pinned it against his helmet while he ran to control it. He then tucked it under his arm and sprinted into the end zone.

Polson, now trailing 26-25, went for the two-point conversion and a scrambling Bagnell found Kelley just inbounds for the victory.

Bagnell completed 17 of 31 passes for 310 yards. He had three TD passes, two going to Doyle.
