Rempe, Bumgarner turn in firsts for Glacier swimmers

HAVRE - Philip Rempe did it again.

The Glacier High School swimmer was a double winner for the second straight week at the Havre Invitational on Saturday.

Rempe won both sprint freestyle events - the 50 in 25.67 and the 100 in 57.23. His margin of victory in the 100 was just over two seconds.

At the season opener the week before in Kalispell, Rempe had the top times in the 100 individual medley and 100 freestlye.

Seth Bumgarner had the other individual first for the Wolfpack in Havre, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.79.

Glacier also picked up two firsts in relay events. The girls won the 200 freestyle (Quin Stevens, Kelsey Iblings, Tessa Heck and Sammie Hammet) in 2:04.58 and the boys posted the best time in the 200 freestyle (Bumgarner, Kyle Brady, Rempe and Brian Hoffman), 1:48.16.

Glacier finished third in the boys' team standings and fourth in the girls'. Flathead finished fifth in both.

"Excellent meet," said Paul Stelter, who coaches both Glacier and Flathead.

"We increased our workload dramatically this week and still had many best or near-best times. At this point of the season, I want to see technically sound swimming when tired, and they did just that."

Ashley Judd and Allison Grubb paced Flathead with seconds in the 200 and 100 freestyle, respectively. Jacob Berry finished third for the Braves in the 100 freestyle.

Brady placed second in the 200 freestyle and Hammett was second in the 50 freestyle.

C.M. Russell won both team titles and was the only team to break the 100-point barrier.
