Natural-gas leak repaired

| December 23, 2007 1:00 AM

The Coram-West Glacier Fire Department, Montana Highway Patrol, the Office of Emergency Services and the Flathead County Sheriff's Office responded Saturday morning to a natural-gas leak near Essex.

A strong odor of natural gas was reported at about 7:30 a.m. about a half-mile west of the Essex turnoff on U.S. 2. The Department of Transportation closed part of U.S. 2 and the railroad while workers fixed the leak. It was fixed by 10:30 a.m., and the road and railway opened 10 minutes later.

A Pierce Lane resident called sheriff's deputies to complain about the mortgage company that calls 10 times a day to pester her about an application she knows nothing about.

On Hilltop Road, a resident said the former resident of the house came back and threw things around. Deputies found no evidence of a break-in and advised the current tenant to change the locks.

A dog reportedly was locked in a pickup for at least 24 hours on Woodland Drive. It did have food and water.

A man who reportedly was part of a fracas in Whitefish Thursday night was arrested Friday evening on a warrant.

People were caught siphoning gasoline from vehicles outside an auto repair shop.

A vehicle that had been reported stolen was discovered in a mail company's parking lot. A woman was arrested.
