New database to link people in need
Agencies and programs that provide for basic human needs in a nine-county area of Northwest Montana are invited to participate in the Montana Database Project, a statewide computerized directory of human services assistance.
Agencies, programs, support groups and service clubs that meet basic human needs such as food, clothing, rental assistance, transportation and gasoline are asked to contact the United Way to sign up for the project.
Services will include referrals to counselors, support groups and other agencies. The area United Way is coordinating database sign-ups from agencies and programs in Flathead, Glacier, Lake, Liberty, Lincoln, Pondera, Sanders, Teton and Toole counties.
The database will be accessible to all health and human services agencies and staff, as well as to the public.
Agencies and their individual services may register online at www.montana211.org.
Kalispell-area agencies also may request mailed registration forms by calling the United Way at 752-7266 or toll-free at 888-720-7266. The fax number is 755-7266. The mailing address is Montana Database Project, P.O. Box 7217, Kalispell, MT 59904.
Agencies are asked to return forms by Feb. 28.
The goal is to quickly connect people who need help with the programs or agencies that can meet their needs. The database supports 211 call centers currently operating in Bozeman, Great Falls, Kalispell and Missoula.
2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember three-digit dialing system (similar to 9-1-1 and 4-1-1) that makes a simple, but critical connection between individuals and families seeking services or volunteer opportunities and the appropriate community-based organizations and government agencies.
United Way supports 2-1-1 as the first number to connect with health and human services and volunteer opportunities. 2-1-1 provides a one-stop service for vital information.
