A 27-year-old Columbia Falls woman was killed Friday night in a crash on Interstate 90 near St. Regis.

Her name had not been released by early Monday. Dispatchers at the Mineral County Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol's Missoula headquarters could not identity her Monday night, either.

She was a passenger in the Pontiac Grand Am that crashed.

The Highway Patrol said the accident happened just before 9:30 p.m. at mile marker 33, when the car swerved to miss a deer in the highway.

The driver overcorrected, and the car slid sideways to the left, and struck a tree on the passenger side, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. It slid again and hit a tree with the front end of the car.

The driver and another passenger in the car were injured and taken to a Missoula hospital.

Both of them were wearing seat belts, but the Columbia Falls woman was not, the spokeswoman said.

The Highway Patrol said the road was dry, and that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
