Roy James 'Smitty' Smith, 64

Roy James "Smitty" Smith, 64, was killed Feb. 15, 2007, in an accident in Missoula. He was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Anaconda to Chauncy M. and Elizabeth K. Smith.

Smitty graduated from Flathead County High School in 1960. He attended Montana State University in Missoula for one year before joining the U.S. Navy.

Upon returning to Kalispell, he was employed at Moose's Saloon. From there his adventures took him to Biby's Floor Coverings. He then made a career move to Creative Cabinets in Missoula and, after returning to Kalispell, opened his own business, Kalispell Countertops.

He was married to Neva Olson in Kalispell, on Oct. 8, 1966. They divorced in 1975.

One of the joys of his life consisted of speed - snowcats, speed boats, and Corvettes - he enjoyed them to the fullest.

Life was an adventure with all his friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Kase C. Smith.

Roy James is survived by his sister, Roberta, and brother-in-law, Peter Keyser, nieces, Vicki Davison, Karin Keyser and Kristi Keyser, grand-nephews, Kenneth and Kevin Downey, and one grand-niece, Kylie Keyser, all of Ventura, Calif.; and stepdaughter, Dawn Grant, and children, of Kalispell.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at United Methodist Church, 329 Second Ave. E., in Kalispell.

Friends are invited to a celebration of life and reception for Roy at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rainbow Bar. "Smitty would have loved it and don't forget to 'ease up' and 'maintain.'"
