Doug Treece passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at his residence in Eureka, at the age of 48.

Doug was born on June 28, 1958, in Whitefish, to Bill and Dolly Treece. He was born with a heart defect, and when he was just 5 years old, had open heart surgery at University Hospital in Seattle. No one knew what the outcome would be, but Doug came back being as spry as ever. He went on to attend elementary and high school in Eureka, graduating with the class of 1976.

After graduation he started his career in seismographing. He was a mechanic for GSI in Denver, and his job led him to travel to many states in the U.S. For a while he even seismographed with his sister Toni and his brother Kevin. During this time he met Lynda Archer in Evanston, Wyo., and they married on Dec. 29, 1979. Together they had one daughter, Brittiney, in 1980.

Doug continued seismographing until 1983 when he moved back to Eureka. He then went to work for Owens & Hurst and this is where he met Shelly Evans. They married on June 21, 1986, in Eureka. They stayed in Eureka for a little while, then moved to Great Falls. This is where they were blessed with two daughters, Kayla, born in 1989, and Danielle 'Dani' born in 1991.

Doug was an ASE certified mechanic and loved doing mechanical work until he was injured on the job. This forced him to try something different, and he went to work for Mini Mart Stores. Then in 2000 Doug and his family moved back to Eureka. He kept busy doing various jobs and just enjoying living in Eureka. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent lots of time taking Kayla and Dani with him, whether it was hunting, fishing or just driving around the countryside and being with them. He adored his daughters.

Doug also loved doing puzzles, putting models together, working with cameras and tinkering on computers. He was everyone's 'go to' guy for computer troubles and knowledge. Doug will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Kayla Treece and Dani Treece of Eureka, and Brittiney Nelson, Evanston, Wyo.; parents, Bill and Dolly Treece, of Eureka; three sisters, Karen and Dave Helmrick of Troy, Jo and Rod Treece of Santee, Calif., and LuAnn Treece of Lakeside, Calif; and brothers, Keith and Diane Treece of Kalispell, and Kevin and Jaci Treece of Kalispell. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Trinidy Nelson of Evanston, Wyo.; 17 nieces and nephews; and his children's mothers, Lynda Archer of Evanston, and Shelly Treece of Eureka.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his oldest sister, Toni Rae.

'May he rest in peace.'

Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Tobacco Valley Cemetery in Eureka.
