One person died and two were hurt in a head-on crash on the Flathead River bridge east of Kalispell Friday evening.
The collision between a truck pulling a horse trailer and an older SUV jammed up traffic on Montana 35. Some drivers were rerouted to the Old Steel Bridge, which also caused a bottleneck because that bridge traffic is limited to one vehicle at a time.
A witness said the SUV drifted into the lane of the truck and the vehicles struck there, head-on, at about 50 mph.
Ambulances took three people to the hospital, where one person died. The other two had injuries that were not initially thought to be life-threatening.
A veterinarian was called for a horse that needed attention.
