Edward 'Eddie' Chester Leavitt, 91

Edward 'Eddie' Chester Leavitt, 91, passed away Jan. 8, 2007, just short of his 92nd birthday in North Valley Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 10, 1915, in Clinton, Utah to George Henry and Isabella Alice (Hendry) Leavitt.

He was the sixth of eight children, all of whom preceded him in death. Eddie graduated from high school in Malad City, Idaho, and then served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his discharge, Eddie worked for a number of road-construction firms, retiring in 1980 from H and K construction of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Eddie married Lucille Price on Sept. 10, 1948, in Elko, Nev. She passed away March 13, 1968. Eddie later married Lucille Geddes on March 11, 1974. She passed away March 23, 2000.

Eddie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in Columbia Falls. For the past 3 1/2 years, Eddie has been residing in the "Dom" at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. The family wishes to sincerely thank the many caring individuals in both the Montana Veterans Home and the North Valley Hospital in Whitefish for the care and comfort provided. Eddie was a kind, gentle man who will be missed by family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; both of his wives; a grandson, Tony Lynn Olsen; and a granddaughter, Shannon Lucille Leavitt.

He is survived by his four children; Cherlyn Call and husband, Monte, of Rigby, Idaho; Linda Crimmins and husband, Mike, of Columbia Falls; Scott Leavitt of Tucson, Ariz. and Melvin Leavitt and wife, Lori, of Rigby, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Edward Chester Leavitt will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Idaho. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery after the service. The family suggests memorials to go to the charity of your choice.
