. Parents are invited to Kalispell Junior High School's Brown Bag at noon Jan. 18. Counselor Jodie Barber will present information recognizing depression and ways to assist people, including teens, who are depressed and contemplating suicide.
. The Evergreen Fitness Team is holding its annual carnival from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 to raise funds for its summer fitness program. Activities will include face painting, fishing booths and a Barbie dunking booth. Prizes are guaranteed at every booth. Tickets may be purchased at the East Evergreen and Evergreen Junior High School offices from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Jan. 23 through Jan. 26. If purchased during this time, tickets are five for $1. . The third-annual Whitefish Winter Carnival Yeti Snowskate Jam takes place Feb. 3 at the Kiddie Park in Whitefish. Anyone can enter; registration forms are available at www.yetisnowskatejam.com.

. Little Kickers, a noncompetitive introduction to soccer for boys and girls in grades K-2, will take place Saturdays from March 3 through April 7 at Russell School. Call 758-7778.

. Whitefish High School has basketball open gym at 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
. The Wave in Whitefish now is hosting teen nights from 10 p.m. to midnight Fridays for grades 7-12. sponsored by Whitefish CARE and Whitefish Community Center. Admission is $3 to use the pools, gym and foyer area. The Whitefish armory still is the site for special nights for dances and live bands. After-school programs benefit Whitefish Middle School students daily; they meet in the middle school, and go to Stumptown Art Studio for lessons, North Valley Music School for guitar lessons, and The Wave for swimming. All of Whitefish is welcome to the middle-school gym from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Volunteers meet with students for 30 minutes once a week for 10 weeks. No experience is necessary, and ideas are provided. At the high school, call coordinator Kane Hines at 751-3572. . Kila School's Latchkey Program is running. Students in third grade and younger who still are at school after 3:30 p.m. must go into the program; fourth-graders and older can wait outside. But when older siblings arrive on the 4:10 p.m. high-school bus, they all must leave together unless participating in Latchkey. There's a fee for the service.
