Flathead County sheriff's deputies

| January 19, 2007 1:00 AM

Snow over icy roads at just the wrong temperatures brought on a rash of accidents for Flathead County sheriff's deputies in the hour shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. On Montana 40 at Trumble Creek Road, and on U.S. 93 at Happy Valley, there were two slide-ins without injuries. But there were injuries in crashes elsewhere - between two vehicles at Whitefish Stage and White Bark Lane, three vehicles on U.S. 2 near A-1 Paving, two vehicles on U.S. 2 near Jagz restaurant, and two more vehicles on U.S. 2 at Walsh Road.

This hit-and-run was a red Chevy pickup with a topper, hitting a Whitefish police vehicle and knocking off its mirror. It probably has a damaged passenger-side mirror.

They've been shooting dogs in the Hungry Horse area, the caller said, then shot a BB into a bedroom window after midnight.

He got a ride from Hungry Horse to West Glacier the night before, but the man in a gray sweater with a hood was back in town Thursday morning, sitting on a sleeping bag by the road. Said he was just trying to get to East Glacier.

A large trash bin was smoking at Columbia Falls. That's what the caller said.
