Braves breeze past Billings schools

GREAT FALLS - The dual victories for Flathead High School's wrestling team continue to add up.

The top-ranked Braves crushed Billings Senior, 51-20, Billings West, 66-21, and Billings Skyview, 51-27, on Saturday to improve to 15-1 on the season.

"It was a great day, a great opportunity," said Flathead coach Jeff Thompson.

"We brought 30 kids (varsity and junior varsity) today. We threw them (JV) in (some varsity matches) to put them in spotlight. We want to get them (JV) ready to rumble at the state tournament."

Thompson said Austin Zapata moved up a weight class (135) against Skyview and came through with an impressive 4-2 decision over Tyler Elm.

Drew Watkins, 189, also went up a weight class and dominated Skyview's Chris Molen, 12-3.

"He beat a kid that has been ranked third all season long," said Thompson.

"He dominated the match."

Flathead continues with dual action Saturday at Helena versus Helena High and Helena Capital.
