Forfeits make for frustrating day duals
Polson picks up wrestling victories over Eureka, Whitefish

WHITEFISH - Forfeit, forfeit and forfeit.
That was the wrestling story of the day for Polson, Eureka and Whitefish. The Bulldogs played host to the other two schools for three duals.
The Pirates wrestled nine matches against Eureka in the first dual of the day. There were just five matches in the night's second dual between Eureka and Whitefish.
Eureka forfeited three matches to Polson and collected points for two Pirate forfeits. Neither team could put a 105-pounder on the mat.
Every match between Eureka and Polson was either a forfeit or a pin. Six of the pins came in the first period.
Whitefish forfeited five matches to the Lions and collected two forfeits. Again, neither team had a 105-pounder or a 171-pounder.
No one is more frustrated - or more worried - about the lack of matches than the coaches.
Polson coach Bob Owen didn't know quite what to say after his team's first dual.
"It's hard with that many forfeits," he said.
"It's tough to affect the outcome of a dual which contains so many forfeits," agreed Whitefish coach Tim Neff.
"But the kids who took the mat handled themselves quite well," he added.
"They're improving. They're well-conditioned and they are not afraid to get out and try the things we're putting in," he added.
"Our spiral is working great," Owen said. "Our kids are really believing in what we're teaching," he added.
Owen also complimented the efforts of freshman twins Trae and Ty Fouty.
"Those two have really been wrestling well. They've been pleasant surprises, both of them," he said.
As for Eureka, coach Danny Lemer found some positives in the afternoon, but he worries about consistency.
"We're still up and down," he said.
"The wrestlers I wanted to see improve, did," Lemer said.
But the wrestlers he had wanted to see simply maintain … Lemer felt those guys may have taken a small step backward.
"But I've got a good idea where we need to be.
"I was hoping for a little better out of our lighter weights. We're still making simple mistakes," he said.
"We're having problems riding and on top and our pinning combinations are not there for us. But on our feet, we're doing what I thought we would at this point - we're winning the majority of the takedowns," he said.
