Woman dies in head-on collision

A 61-year-old Whitefish woman died Tuesday morning when her car crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Janet Peterson died at the scene on U.S. 93 just south of Happy Valley.

At least one injured person in the other vehicle was taken first to North Valley Hospital and later to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. No other information was available Tuesday on that person.

Peterson was driving south on U.S. 93 at 8:15 a.m. when she lost control and went into the northbound lane where her car struck the other vehicle, according to the Montana Highway Patrol and Flathead County Sheriff's Office.

She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the passenger door, the Sheriff's Office and Patrol said. She was the only person in her car

The Associated Press reported that her death raises the state highway fatality toll to 10 for 2007, compared to 12 on Jan. 23, 2006.
