Braves 17-1 in mat duals

HELENA - Flathead tuned-up for the Western AA divisional tournament on Saturday by crushing Helena Capital 61-22 and Helena High 64-14 in dual wrestling action.
The top-ranked Braves lost just seven of 30 matches on the day.
"We had two big wins," said Flathead coach Jeff Thompson.
"This gives us a lot of momentum for divisionals next weekend. We end up 17-1 in duals this year, the only loss coming to Havre in the finals of the Mining City Duals."
The coach complimented Bryce Stacy at 145 pounds. Stacy got a major decision over Matt Selberg.
"A very tough kid for Helena High," Thompson said.
"Danny Jenkins wrestled really well. He wrestled up a weight class," he added.
Jenkins defeated Helena High's Jarred Maddio and Helena Capital's Jason Ferguson.
"He looked really good," the coach said.
Shawn Lau picked up a pin and a forfeit at 105. Lau, ranked No. 1 in AA at 98, moved up a weight class so Zach Reimnitz, No. 4 at that weight, could get a couple matches in.
"(Reimnitz) looked really good against Webster of Helena Capital," the coach said.
"He's going to be a really tough 'Killer B' for us. We have high expectations for him.
"Our JVs were very impressive. We're excited about getting them in the lineup next week at divisional."
Others with big days were Dan Ogden, with two pins at heavyweight, David Lau with a pair of pins at 160 and Luke Fischer with two pins at 171.
"Those two (Lau and Fischer) are getting so dominate with the leg rides," Thompson said. "Once they get on top of you, it's lights out."
The Flathead plan for this week is to take it easy.
"We'll taper this week and build these guys up," he said.
The divisional begins Friday at 4 p.m. in Butte. Wrestling continues Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
The all-class state wrestling tournament is set for Feb. 9-10 in Billings.
