Stillwater Christian School boys basketball coach Dana Hashley called it an "inspiring" weekend trip through Idaho.

The Cougars "lost one we should have won, and won two we should have lost."

Stillwater Christian started the weekend off Friday with a tough 73-70 loss to North Idaho Christian School in Hayden Lake, Idaho, before pulling out two thrilling victories on Saturday over Immaculate Conception Academy, 86-80 in double overtime, and Heritage Christian School, 63-62.

"In both games we were able to compete to the end despite the dismal circumstances," Hashley said.

Against Immaculate Conception, trailing by three points with 12 seconds to play, Brandon Lodien sank a free throw and Jacob Topp added two more to send the game into overtime.

In the first OT, SCS trailed by four points with 25 seconds remaining. Then Bryce Snyder got a defensive rebound and made a quick outlet to Seth Konecky, who then made a 50-foot pass to Matt Makowski sprinting down the court for a layup. On the inbounds pass, Topp stole the ball and took it to the rim to tie the score and put the game into a second overtime. Konecky went 5-for-6 shooting at the free throw line to give Stillwater the victory.

The Cougars, now 17-4 overall on the season, also trailed in Saturday's other contest with Christian Heritage up 42-20 at the half.

"At half time we had a little discussion about perseverance, mental and physical toughness," Hashley said.

The Cougars responded by outscoring Christian Heritage 23-9 in the third quarter.

Despite having three starters fouling out and trailing by a point with 10 seconds remaining, Makowski inbounded the ball to Snyder at the top of the key. Snyder then proceeded to take the ball to the rim, but missed. Tyler Heine was there for the rebound and the put-back and the one-point victory.

"This was a huge emotional win for assistant coach Dave Heine and myself as our boys were exhausted and in despair, but continued to not lose hope and battle to victory," Hashley said.
