Burt Lawrence Huffman, 31

Burt Lawrence Huffman, 31, formerly of Whitefish, died peacefully Jan. 25, 2007, at his home in Eagle River, Alaska.

A visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 16300 Domain Lane, in Eagle River. A memorial service will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

Mr. Huffman was born Aug. 4, 1975, in Whitefish. He moved to Alaska in April 1981 and was a 1993 graduate of Chugiak High School.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, snowmachining, camping and traveling with his family.

Mr. Huffman was a foreman in the family business, Universal Sign and Lighting.

His family said: 'Burt was a caring, giving and loving man who loved his family and was always there for them.'

He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting or snowmachining.

A good friend of his, Travis Tucker, had said, 'If it can be done, Burt can do it.' No matter what time of the day it was, he was there to lend a helping hand.

He loved life, his friends and especially his family. Everyone who knew him was touched by him and made an everlasting friendship. He was respected and loved by many and wanted to enjoy every minute of the day.

'He will be missed immensely and remembered with a smile until we meet again. As Burt would say, 'Keep your powder dry and shoot straight.''

Mr. Huffman is survived by his wife, Susan Ann Huffman; children, Brayden and Lauren Huffman; parents, Jim and Marty Huffman; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Curtis Foster; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Sharon Huffman; brother, Jimmy Huffman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Christine and Kurt Kahklen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kim and Steve Simonka; nieces and nephews, Jake, Jesse, Ashley, Adam and Kylie; and aunts, uncles, cousins, many other loved ones. He also leaves behind his beloved springer spaniel, Ruger.
