Locke, Thompson lead potent attack for Mariners

It's easy to see why the Mission Valley Mariners are 38-6 overall on the Class A American Legion baseball season and have put together win streaks of 13 and 10 games.
The Mariners have eight players (with at least 20 at-bats) hitting .400 or better and the team sports a hefty .393 batting average.
The pitching statistics are equally impressive. The team ERA is 3.37.
Eric Locke leads Mission Valley in hitting with a .484 average. He has a team-high 61 hits in a team high-126 at-bats. Locke also leads in runs scored (51) RBIs (57) and doubles (24). He shares the lead in home runs (six).
Brandon Thompson is hitting .471. In 104 at-bats, Thompson has 49 hits, has scored 49 runs and also has six home runs.
He has been walked a team-high 32 times.
Will Gordon is hitting .452 with 12 doubles and four home runs.
Also hitting .400 or better are: Tim Rausch (.466); Chris Alfiero (.400); John Rausch (.413); Mike Fisher (.409); and Derrick Rathe (.417).
Tim Rausch has five triples, a team high, and is second in RBIs with 48.
Kyle Brown (.375) has stolen 30 bases to the lead the Mariners in that category. John Rausch is next with 22 and has homered four times.
The Mariners have hit 33 home runs with 11 players having at least one.
Brandon Roy leads the pitching staff with a 7-0 record. His ERA is 3.75.
Locke (6-1) has a team-high 60 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.42.
Tim Rausch is 4-1, Thompson 4-0, Spencer Trawick 4-0 and Cubbie Pierre 3-1.
Mission Valley, which won the Firecracker Tournament over the weekend, gets back to conference play today with a doubleheader, starting at 5 p.m., at Missoula.
The Mariners are 10-0 in league games.
