It took more than four hours Friday night for deputies and personnel from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to rescue four youths from an island in the middle of the Flathead River. They and five of their friends had begun their float trip at the Presentine Bar fishing access and made it almost to the Kalispell city limits when they got hung up on a log jam at about 10 p.m.

Four youths swam to the banks and two more decided to continue floating downstream. The other four were too scared to do either. After unsuccessful attempts because of shallow water and a broken WaveRunner, they finally were rescued with the use of a 15-foot shallow draft boat.
