Dane Merton Shattuck, 14, was a loving, generous, adventurous young man whose life was cut short on Wednesday, July 10, 2007, near Somers. Dane touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths he crossed with his exuberant, cheery personality. Always ready to reach a hand out to those in need, he loved life and the people in it.

Dane began his too-brief journey of life on April 18, 1993, as the son of Gail and Tim Shattuck. The person Dane became was formed by the many colorful people and experiences he enjoyed within his life. It was at St. Mary's of Hannah in Michigan where Dane first entered school and began to spread his contagious smile and his amazing personality. Dane later continued his education in Montana at Somers Middle School, from fourth to eighth grade, where he developed his love of music and skill at playing the bass clarinet. He was also developing a love of the guitar, which we all know would have made him famous one day! Dane looked forward to college and pursuing a career in music, where he would have surely changed the world.

We are grateful to the many friends and mentors who helped Dane throughout his life and contributed their influence in shaping him into the marvelous person he was.

We were all so looking forward to seeing what great directions Dane would take as his life unfolded along this earth's journey. "May he touch as many on his continuing spiritual path as he has here." Just as he embraced everyone, we embrace Dane in our hearts. It was a true privilege to know him and we will miss him forever.

He leaves behind his father, Tim Shattuck, mother, Gail Shattuck (Bradley), both of Somers; two older brothers, Danyle Lambert and Kyle Schack, and an older sister, Meranda Lambert, all of Michigan; his dearest cousin, Brandi Lock; and a grandfather, Robert Bradley; aunts, Roberta Haworth and Brian, and Geri Bradley; uncles, Vern Bradley and Karen, Robert Shattuck and Beth, Raymond Shattuck, and David Shattuck; and cousins and many friends.

Dane was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Merton Shattuck; his maternal grandmother, Geraldine Bradley; and his cousin, Vern Lock; and his beloved dog, Sam.

Our family invites you to share with us in the celebration of Dane's life at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 15, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel, 525 S. Main St., Kalispell, Montana.
