Mariners take 2 from Red Sox

HAMILTON - Mission Valley swept the Bitterroot Red Sox Sunday 12-2 and 15-14 to move to 8-0 in league play on the Class A American Legion baseball season.

The Mariners, 13-3 overall, slammed three home runs in the opener.

John Rausch homered in the sixth inning, a solo shot to left field. He finished with four RBIs in the game.

Eric Locke homered in the fifth, a solo shot to right field. He also doubled twice

And Tim Rausch followed Locke in the fifth inning with a home run to left field.

Brandon Roy pitched five strong innings. He allowed five hits, but struck out 10 Red Sox.

Beau Nordberg had the game-winning hit in the second game, a single down the third base to score Will Gordon in the seventh inning.

Mission Valley rallied with three runs in the seventh.

The Mariners trailed in that contest, 9-1 after the first inning. Mission Valley committed four errors in that inning to go along with issuing two walks and hitting two batters.

Locke doubled in the finale as well. He finished with four RBIs.

Will Gordon and Nick Fell both had two hits for Mission Valley in the second contest.

Mission Valley plays at the Kalispell Lakers on Wednesday, 5 p.m.
