Cronin's single in the seventh inning lifts Glacier
WHITEFISH - Mission Valley's winning streak is history.
The Glacer Twins saw to that Friday night, nipping the Mariners 9-8 at the Eddie Gallo memorial Class A American Legion baseball tournament at Memorial Park.
Mission Valley (28-6) came into the contest with a 13-game winning streak.
Tied at eight going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Glacier's Jack Cronin singled to right field to score pinch runner Cody Elek from third to give the Twins (8-15) the victory.
Geoff Streeter led off the inning for Glacier with a single up the middle.
Elek then replaced Streeter.
Dustin Vonfeldt sacrificed Elek to second, and a single by Kyle Knox moved Elek to third.
Streeter finished the game with four hits.
Kyle Knox (4-4) picked up the win on the mound, pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief. Mike Hader went 6 2/3 innings.
Glacier led 5-1 after three innings.
Mission then scored four runs in the top of the fourth to tie it at 5-all.
Glacier scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead 8-5 only to watch Mission Valley tie it again, this time at eight, with three runs in the top of the sixth.
The victory advances Glacier to the championship game tonight at 6 versus the Laurel Dodgers.
Glacier and Mission Valley are both 2-1 in tournament play.
No other information was available from Friday's tournament action.
