Whitefish

Whitefish police started out a Saturday night call by tracking down a hit-and-run suspect, but ended up charging the 20-year-old man on suspicion of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

The 17-year-old boy sitting in the backseat of a car that had just been in an accident Sunday evening at Montana 40 and U.S. 93 seemed polite and friendly, so the officer made dispatchers double check the identity and charges. But it was true - he was wanted on a $100,000 Flathead District Court warrant for felony assault with a weapon and felony criminal mischief. Police found drugs when they searched him, so added the drug charge. An 18-year-old man in the backseat beside him was found with drugs and drug paraphernalia, so was charged, as well. Both drivers in the two-vehicle accident were clean, police said.

Police ticketed a 45-year-old man in connection with partner or family member assault after his son came to the station and reported his father had assaulted him and his brother at the home on First Street East.

When officers ferreted out the 25-year-old man from behind the trash bin where he had been hiding behind a Central Avenue saloon, they ticketed him with assault for a fight he had been in earlier.
