| June 26, 2007 1:00 AM

John F. "Jack" Provence passed away May 22, 2007 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1917, in Shelby, to Oliver and Helen Provence. He spent most of his life in Montana. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during World War II and survived the attack.

After his discharge he settled in the Flathead Valley, where he logged and ranched in Lost Prairie for many years.

In 1972 he met and married Esther Fillis and they remained on the ranch until retirement. Then they moved to Hope, Idaho, and later to Priest River, Idaho. Jack and Esther loved fishing and camping and Jack became a loving father and grandfather to Esther's family. They enjoyed traveling south for the winters for a number of years.

Esther passed away in 2003 and Jack lived in Sandpoint, Idaho, until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther; sister, Mildred Fritz; and stepson, Burt Fillis.

Jack is survived by three brothers, Philip and Emma Provence of Kalispell; Ralph Provence, and Alan and Donella Provence of San Martin, Calif.; and a stepdaughter, Janice, and Emmet Mullaley of Priest River. He was a beloved uncle to five nieces and three nephews and also had many other friends and relatives.

Cremation has taken place and no service will be held, as was Jack's wish.
