Ash to put Ogden on probation
No worries, former Flathead High School star Daniel Ogden is not going to lose his scholarship.
New Montana State University football Rob Ash will just place him on a one-year probation for Monday's early-morning incident in Bozeman, which former Helena Capital linebacker Clay Bignell was caught in the mayor's house after a group of teenagers allegedly egged houses.
"It's all over," Ash said Wednesday evening at a Bobcat football social in Lakeside. "He's gone through the justice system and he got his penalties. We've done the discipline on our part of it. He is going to sign a contract with us to be on probation for one year. He'll keep his scholarship and ability to be on the team.
"We required him, and the other young man, to go door to door - to houses they were permitted to go to with the Bozeman police screening the list. The guys went around (Tuesday) night and apologized. That may have been the best outcome of the whole thing - to make them go talk to the people whose homes were involved. I think it was a very meaningful learning experience for those two young men."
Ogden, an incoming freshman defensive lineman for the Bobcats, turned himself in to police and pleaded guilty Tuesday to obstructing a peace officer - a misdemeanor.
The 6-foot-1, 256-pound defensive tackle was second on the Braves in defensive statistics points with 158 last year. His junior-year total of 221 defensive statistics points ranks 16th all-time in Braves' history. He recorded 15 tackles for losses and 82 total tackles last year for the 7-4 Braves. He also tallied 4 1/2 sacks, five quarterback hurries, a pass breakup with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
He is planning to redshirt for the Bobcats this year.
