An 81-year-old Lakeside man died Friday evening after he was struck and run over by a recreational vehicle.

Wallace Best was walking down a pedestrian path along U.S. 93 near mile marker 98 as an RV pulled out of a parking lot shared by a Conoco station and a Dairy Queen. The RV clipped Best as it made the turn onto U.S. 93 and knocked him down. The vehicle's rear tire then ran over Best.

The driver of the RV told Montana Highway Patrol investigators he never saw Best.

Flathead County coroners were investigating the death late Friday.

Next of kin were notified, and Best's body was taken to Buffalo Hill Funeral Home.

Investigators will forward their findings to the Flathead County Attorney's Office, which will decide whether or not charges should be filed.
