Roger S. Pierce, 92
Walla Walla resident, Roger S. Pierce, 92, died Feb. 26, 2007, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center, in Walla Walla, Wash.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Mr. Pierce was born June 21, 1914, in LaMoure, N.D., to Clifford V. and Grace B. Sabin Pierce. He was a graduate of Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, in 1939, with a Bachelor of Science degree in floraculture.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Quarter Master Corps in New Guinea. Following discharge from the service, he went to Kalispell, where he owned Pierce's Nursery, retiring in 1975. Growing plants was not only his career but also his hobby.
In 1952, he and Alice Painton married in Townsend. They enjoyed fishing on Flathead Lake and many other streams in Montana. She died in 1986. He moved to the Walla Walla area in 1995 from Kalispell.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandee Strampher of College Place, Wash., and Barbara Alvarado of Spokane; a son, Daniel M. Pierce, of Gold Bar, Wash.; a sister, Helen Callihan, of Fairview Park, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Anne Pierce, of Delray Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
