Joyce C. Peterson, 76

Joyce C. Peterson, 76, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

She moved to the Flathead from her home in Great Falls in 1999 to be near her family and her Flathead Lake summer home, after the death of her husband Arden J. Peterson who died in 1997.

She was born in Columbus on Sept. 9, 1930. She was raised in the Columbus area where her father, Edward N. Young, farmed and ran the bulk-oil plant in Columbus. Her mother, Chloe (Brownfield) Young, was a school teacher and principal in the Billings area.

After graduation from Columbus High School, Joyce attended Montana State University in nursing where she met and married Arden John Peterson of Great Falls. As a homemaker and mother, Joyce supported Arden in his business endeavors.

She was active in her church, the YWCA, and the Daughters of the Nile as a Sapphire Temple Dancer. Her hobbies were bowling, crocheting and knitting; and spending summers on Flathead Lake.

Joyce was the beloved mother of Don Peterson and wife, Debra, of Londonderry, N.H., Cindy Galvin and husband, Michael, of Kalispell, Tedd Peterson and wife, Betsey, of Kalispell, Penny Haven and husband, Terry, of Billings, Gregg Peterson and wife, Mandy, and Kent Peterson, all of Butte. Joyce was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Vanessa and Angela Peterson, Travis Galvin, Michele Ross, Brandon and Lucas Peterson, Candra, Bryan, and Mark Haven, Dustin, Geoff and Lindee Peterson; and one great-grandchild, Allee Galvin; brother, Edward Young of Boise, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Maxine Davis of Sacramento, Calif. and Kay Peterson of Boise; and a brother-in-law, Clayton Peterson and wife, Wilma, of Lacy, Wash. and their families; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.

Memorial services for Joyce will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Stappler officiating. There will be no visitation.
