Donald W. Moen, 61
Donald W. Moen, 61, a longtime Libby area businessman, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at his home in Libby following an extended illness. He was born to Wernell and Elda Moen on Feb. 10, 1946, at Devil's Lake, N.D., and came to the Flathead Valley with his family as a child where he was raised and educated at Kalispell.
He married Sharon Taylor and they came to the Libby area in the mid-1960s; they were later divorced.
Don worked as a laborer and driller on the Flathead Tunnel (during the Libby Dam Project) and also on the ASARCO mine exploration project. He also worked in uranium mining in New Mexico and on the Alaskan Pipeline Project before returning to the Libby area in 1976.
He later married Virginia 'Ginny' Howard Doyle.
He and his wife currently owned and operated both The Mint and Harold's Place in Libby; during that time, Don remained involved in construction, doing road construction work in the area.
Don is remembered by his customers and associates not just for business, but as a good friend as well.
Don remained an active outdoorsman during most his life, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing and boating; he loved his family and particularly enjoyed being grandpa to his grandchildren, Sarah, Alyx, Kamren, Kelsey, Riley and Samantha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean Owens; and a brother, Dale Moen; as well as a brother-in-law, Jerry Syth.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny, of Libby; his children, Donald Moen and wife, Tracie, of Montesano, Wash.; Juliana Williams and husband, Chad, and Christina Crowley and husband, Jerry, all of Kalispell; and Megan Moen of Libby; his sister, Noreen Syth, of Kalispell; as well as his five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the City of Libby Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and until noon Monday. A reception will follow the service at the Libby Memorial Center.
