Steven Craig Matthis, 48

Steven Craig Matthis, 48, passed away peacefully at home March 23, 2007, in Bozeman, with his family by his side after a long and difficult battle with MS. He was born in 1958 to Dell R. Matthis and Karen R. (Johnson) Matthis in Helena. Craig attended grades one through four in Helena and grades five through 12 in Bozeman.

Upon completion of high school, he had several jobs in the valley until he was employed by Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) where he worked for 19 years as a cable technician.

Craig married Robin Elizabeth Tate September 18, 1979, in Bozeman. They later divorced. They have one daughter, Maria Lee Matthis.

Craig had many interests. He collected rocks, antiques, vintage cars and coins. He was a beautiful skier starting out early in the Buddy Werner program at Bridger Bowl. He was an avid sportsman and loved Montana, particularly the Gallatin Valley and the Headwaters of the Missouri.

Craig is survived by his mother, Karen R. Matthis, of Bozeman; his daughter, Maria Lee Matthis; grandson; Mason Craig Del Grande, also of Bozeman; sister, Kay Suzanne Matthis, of Spokane; and brother, T. Scott Matthis, of Plains.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dell R. Matthis; grandparents, Elmer and Ruth Kenyon Johnson, and Frank and Rhena Matthis.
