Bravettes slip by Loggers

LIBBY - The Bravettes found another way to win Thursday in the cold, dry weather beneath the Cabinet Mountains.

The Class AA Flathead High School softball team used another clutch seventh-inning to beat Class A Libby, 3-2.

Tied 2-2 with one out in the top of the seventh, junior all-state center fielder Heather Haegele hit a triple down the right field line and Kalin Lingle followed with a sacrifice fly to center field for the game-winning run.

"It was a great game for both teams," Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

The game had two ties and a lead change with only five runs being scored.

Libby took the first lead of the game in the third inning, 1-0, on a Flathead error. The Bravettes tied it in their next at bats when Leslie Quay grounded out to score Julie Robertson.

Flathead took its first lead, 2-1, in the sixth inning when Quay hits a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Robertson.

But Libby tied it in its next at bat when Laice Dedrick singled up the middle. An error on the play plated another run for the Loggers.

The victory improved the Bravettes to 10-2 on the season.

Brianna Compton struck out four and walked one in improving to 8-1 on the season.

Dedrick relieved Libby starter Brooke Hageness in the fourth inning and struck out four while walking one.

All told, the Loggers out-hit the Bravettes, 5-4.

The Loggers, who stranded the game-tying run in the seventh after a leadoff hit, dropped to 7-8 on the season. They will play in Ronan on Saturday.
