H. Everett Smith, 101

H. Everett Smith, 101, of Polson passed away May 5, 2007, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center. Everett was born July 7, 1905, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, to Rev. C.E. Smith and Clara (Somers) Smith.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Montana Wesleyan College in Helena. He taught high-school chemistry and was a restaurant owner and chef in Polson for 35 years.

Everett married Luella Herried on June 24, 1935, in Polson.

Everett was a city councilman for six years, a member of IOOF Lodge, where he served as noble grand of the local chapter and grand master of the state chapter. He also was elected representative to the Sovereign Grand lodge meetings in New York, Cleveland, Vancouver, B.C., and Cincinnati.

He was also a Lions Club member for 25 years and headed up the local Salvation Army chapter for 20 years. He was a member of the Lake County Council on Aging, American Red Cross, Lake County Tax Appeals Board and was a past Polson Senior Citizens president.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie Reid, and her husband, Jerry, of Redding, Calif.; three grandchildren, Deborah White, Brian Reid and Theron Reid; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the Polson Community Church, with the Rev. Richard Widerholdt officiating.

Cremation and arrangements are by Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory in Polson.
