Carolyn DeeAnn Lasater Aldous, 65, passed away Saturday Nov. 10, 2007, at her home in Salt Lake City.

Carolyn was born on Feb. 18, 1942, in Salt Lake City.

Some of her many notable accomplishments were, at the young age of 16, being crowned Miss Sugarhouse. She continued very successfully winning numerous titles from pageants all across the state until 1961, when she took the prestigious title of Miss Utah. Then at the 1962 Miss America Pageant, she won the talent competition, and was crowned second runner-up. She subsequently attended the University of Utah. She was offered a contract with Warner Brothers and moved to California to pursue acting, having appeared in films with Troy Donahue, Cary Grant, and other notables, and had also been featured on "The Tonight Show" and "The Red Skelton Show." Two years later, she moved to New York, where she was offered a scholarship by the legendary Broadway producer, David Merrick.

While in New York, she met her loving husband-to-be, John Kay Aldous Jr. After dating for two years, they wed Sept. 4, 1964. They then moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where she gave birth and raised her two sons.

She was active in the PTA, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church, and sang in the championship barbershop group Sweet Adelines. She was a dedicated mother, and stayed active by studying tae kwon do with her family, where she attained the rank of black belt. One of her other notable achievements was her role as producer and founder of the East Coast performing ensemble of "Voices of Destiny," a youth group performing musical theater with a positive message.

Kay and Carolyn relocated to Orlando, Fla., in 1989, where she became involved again with the pageant system as a coach, having successfully coached various local winners, a Miss Utah, a Miss Florida, a Miss Kansas and the 1997 Miss America. Kay and Carolyn moved to their dream home in Montana, when Kay retired from AAA. Shortly after his passing, she returned to her childhood home of Salt Lake, to be near her two sons.

Everyone who new Carolyn was enamored by her charm, elegance, grace and compassion. She served a welfare mission for the LDS church. Her passions were music, dance, and family history. She was well-loved and respected by her family, church members and the community. She was an inspiration to everyone around her and will be missed.

This loving mother and wife was preceded in death by her husband, John Kay Aldous Jr.; her parents, Forest and Eva Lasater; her sister, June K.; and brothers, Forest T., Terry S. and Steven S. Lasater.

She is survived by her sons, Shane Stephen Aldous and Bradley Lasater Aldous; as well as her grandsons, Kaden John and Channing Arion Aldous, all of Salt Lake City.

A service celebrating her life will be at noon Friday, Nov. 16, at the Foothill Chapel, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave., in Salt Lake City. All are invited. She will be laid to rest at her ranch in Montana. Flowers can be sent to Larkin Mortuary, Salt Lake City, UT (801) 363-5781.
