Zemke, Sheeran hope to lead Lady Crusaders to another title
If the Flathead Valley Home School girls' basketball team needed a slogan for the 2007-08 season it could very well be 'Going for Four."
The Lady Crusaders are three-time defending MCAA state champions and they have their eyes set on doing it again.
"Yes, I believe so. I don't have any doubt we will be at the top again," said FVHS coach Paul Zemke.
"With Charity's (Zemke) and Danae's (Sheeran) experience, they will lead the other girls real well. I think those two girls are the most fundamentally sound (players) in the whole league."
Charity Zemke, 5-foot-3 senior guard, averaged 15 points per game last season and recorded over 200 steals. She was named the state tournament MVP for a second straight year.
Sheeran, 5-11 1/2 junior post, averaged six points a game. She was a part-time starter last season as a strong forward.
Zemke and Sheeran are team co-captains this year.
Zemke will be the team's main offensive weapon this year.
"She could have always scored more," said coach Zemke. "She will also set the team real well."
Jenna Sladek, 5-6 sophomore forward, started a few games for the Lady Crusaders a year ago.
Hannah Rajkowski, 5-6 junior, is holding down the starting spot at strong forward while Shelby Sladek, 5-6 freshman, and Jordanna Weimer, 5-5 sophomore, split time at the off-guard position.
Leslie Goyer, 5-6 sophomore, and Denitra Peterson, 5-2 junior, will be the first two players off the bench.
FVHS takes a 34-game winning streak into today's game at the Cougar Classic at Stillwater Christian School. The Lady Crusaders won three preseason games at a tournament earlier this month in Butte.
"I expect close games early," coach Zemke said.
"Especially when we play Stillwater."
The Flathead Valley Home School boys' team is coached by Don Ehlers. No information was available on the Crusaders.
The FVHS boys will also play in the Cougar Classic this weekend.
