Wolfpack spikers upset Capital

HELENA - The Glacier High School volleyball team may have turned the corner Tuesday night.
The Wolfpack beat Western AA's top team, Helena Capital, in four games - 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-15.
It was the Wolfpack's second victory of the Western AA season. They are now 2-7 in conference and 3-14 overall. Capital fell to 7-2 in conference and 11-9 overall.
"I hope this is a turning point," Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. "We've been so close in a lot of matches. We had to play extremely hard for every point in this one. So I hope the girls have a better understanding of what it takes to play hard and finish close games. This should be a confidence booster.
"We played them tough in pool play at both the Great Falls and Missoula tournaments so I knew we matched up well with them. It was our blockers matching up with their hitters (that gave us the advantage)."
Emilee Hashley had 13 kills and five blocks. Kayla Smart added 11 kills. Amy Coleman tallied three blocks.
"Capital has excellent middle hitters," Harkins said. "We needed to keep a hold on them and limit their swings. But even if they got their swings, we needed to get touches on their balls to slow them down. We ended up having a lot of blocks not show up in the stats because they weren't stuff blocks, but we got touches on a lot of their hits and that made the difference."
The Wolfpack also served aggressively, albeit with a lot of errors. The tough serves helped to keep the ball away from Capital's middle hitters.
Jolee Kampf registered five of Glacier's 11 aces. Lindsea Vaudt assisted 30 of Glacier's 36 kills.
